Wendell Castle Lamps – New Icons of Design?
Wendell Castle, known for his fixation with the use of coloured plastics, designed these amazing lamps in the late 1960s. This was especially outlandish because at the time, and to some degree even today, plastic was not synonymous with high-end furniture design and luxury pieces. The line has recently been put back into limited production for the first time in 40 years by R 20th Century. The amazing thing is that the lamps look just as stunning and cutting edge today as they did when they were originally created. In a way the lamps show us that the truly inspired design is timeless. We think these lamps are absolutely awesome, with hints of pop art and surrealism seen throughout.
