RDM Innovation Deck – Rotterdam, Netherlands

Dutch architectural firm Groosman Partners designed this space in Rotterdam. Formally the home of the Rotterdam Dry Dock Company, the space now serves as an education and technology centre. Called the Innovation deck, it has suspended in it an office complex beneath an eight metre high ceiling. The inserted floor adds roughly 1000 square metres of office and meeting rooms.

Groosman Partners wanted to take advantage of the hall’s high ceilings and was inspired by the industrial crane structures that form the building’s framework. The architects hung the new storey from the structure, then added an external staircase and elevator for access.
