This Office space in London is the HQ of HSBC’s Private Banking arm, it is located on St James’ street and is housed in the former Conservative Club. HSBC wanted to change the space into a modern financial services building, but as is often the case with such projects it wanted to do so in a way that did not overwhelm or dilute the building’s historic character. The project was completed by Squire and Partners, and it looks absolutely fantastic! This project involved the complex restoration of a grade II listed building on St James’ Street and the addition of an independent state-of-the-art office building. The central challenge involved integrating these two very different structures.
A full height atrium was introduced between the two buildings to provide an interface between the historic and the contemporary. The sumptuous historic interior can be glimpsed from glass lifts that rise up through the atrium.
