It was the last day of November and cold in Finland’s capital, Helsinki, but still, 15,000 people are travelling to the city for one and only reason. Why? The answer is SLUSH: Europe’s leading startup event!
During this dark time of the year, Slush takes 15.ooo attendees and 1 million live stream viewers to the north of Europe to experience the inspiring and innovative atmosphere of the event. In fact, this yearly two-day conference brings together about 2000 startups, 800 venture capitalists, and 700 journalists from over 100 counties.
Back in 2008, Slush was founded as a student-driven, non-profit movement in order to change attitudes toward entrepreneurship, building skills and ambition, and providing access to international venture capital. Since then the interest has been increasing at a steady rate, and in 2015, Slush began to run events throughout the world in cities including Tokyo, Shanghai, and Singapore. Today, the core of the conference is to facilitate founder and investor meetings and to build a worldwide startup community. In fact, people now think of Slush as a collision between a festival and a conference that is all about celebrating entrepreneurship.
When it comes to content, Slush has one main mission: “to help the next generation of great, world-conquering companies forward”. The themes of 2016 touch upon the mind of an entrepreneur, life expectancy, the self-driving society, a survival plan for planet earth, and augmenting the human life in terms of technology.
The people behind Slush has managed to create an event with leading speakers of the global tech scene. To point out the great aspect of speakers, we can mention Spotify’s Founder, GoEuro’s CEO and Founder, Skype’s Co-Founder, Shazam’s Co-Founder, a former NASA astronaut, and even the Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, and Prince Constantijn of The Netherlands.
All the speakers are encouraged to avoid promoting or speaking about their own company and share a memorable story or lesson instead. As a result, the Slush team has managed to create a content focused conference with exclusive content.
